We made our first dollar online through an affiliate program. We were
getting a 30% commission and the leads were going to the affiliate
company.

We were the given the option to get higher commissions at 50% provided
we upgrade if we become partners of the program which at the time was an
investment of around $2000.

A big selling point at the time was being able to get the benefits of
higher selling products also referred to as big ticket products or back
end products.

We were very new to the industry and still did not know how to build
our own capture pages and sales funnels.

A capture page, is often also called a landing page or an opt in page
and is essentially a one page website that is designed to capture a
person’s email address and maybe a phone number.

A sales funnel is essentially a follow up process. The follow up can
in the form of upsells after they have purchased the initial product
and a sales funnel is also referring to the follow up emails that
person would receive.

Growth Of Affiliate Programs

As affiliate marketing has evolved the front end commissions evolved
to pay 100%.

The back end or big ticket sales evolved to a point where a partner
could make 1k, 3k, 5k, 9k and 15k commissions.

The investment required to get access to these benefits started at
$2000 and went all the way through to $30,000.

One of the key points in being able to sell back end or big ticket
products is phone follow up.

When we bought into our first big ticket program we were not aware
that we needed to communicate with front end customers over the phone
to sell them the bigger programs.

Eventually we found a program that did all the heavy lifting for us
which meant we simply outsourced a commission only sales agent to do
all the selling for us.  (You can access information on that program by
clicking the link)

So the thing to think about here is, how many $10 ebooks would you need
to sell to make $1000?

You would need to sell 100.

The question now becomes clearer.

Is it easier to sell 100 ebooks at $10 to make $1000 or is it easier
to just make one sale at $1000.

For us the answer was “one sale at $1000”.

That’s my observation this week on affiliate programs,
